Looking at the Future

The Yin and Yang

Every time you look at your smartphone or tablet, you are looking at the future. The reason you are looking at the future is because there is so much MUCH more to come.

The current state of communications and computing technology looks so much better than things looked only two decades ago, it is hard to believe that there could be so much more to come.

You could say we are having such a great time flying around in our biplanes, it seems like we have arrived. We are soaring with the birds. I can collaborate with key individuals all over the world and never leave my office. I can immediately find information on any subject of interest. What could be better?

Well, seen any biplanes around lately? They were great, but we don’t soar with the birds anymore. We blast off and travel at speeds that no other animal can achieve. We don’t have shuttles to Mars yet, but don’t hold your breath.

We are at the early stage of understanding all of the potential of what we have and what may come. Inventors and entrepreneurs are working day and night to come up with the next breakthrough that will improve our lives and bring them riches. I like to think their primary motivation is to bring improvements to society, but the promise of great wealth is an outstanding incentive.

For those that aren’t inventors or entrepreneurs, they might be just as happy to see things stand still or at least slow down a bit. These folks will be disappointed. Change will come and come big and fast over the next decade.

The inventors and entrepreneurs look at their smartphones and tablets and imagine a new world. Some of these imaginations will become reality. For everyone else, when you look, just plan to not get comfortable with what you have today. These biplanes will be replaced by some fantastic vision that will allow us to soar further and faster than most of us can imagine.
